Most people by now, whether they play poker or not, have heard of PokerStars. This company is rather hard to miss as they sponsor or have become a part of events such as the World Poker Tour, Asian Pacific Poker Tour, Latin American Poker Tour, and the European Poker Tour. Not to mention that you would have to be living under a rock not to notice their commercials on TV with poker pros Daniel Negreanu and Vanessa Rousso. So what makes PokerStars so great? Sure they have a lot of players and games, but what makes them different then the other online poker rooms? PokerStars continues to stay in front of their competition by offering the best games and tournaments and offering the best support available.

To say that PokerStars is an online poker room is an understatement as they offer so much more. They offer the most games available today in the biggest variety. Starting with the most popular game, Texas Holdem, they offer this in Fixed, Pot, and No Limit versions, and for those practicing the game, in play money as well. You will find limits starting at .01/.02 and work their way up to $500/$1000 limits in no limit games and $2000/$4000 limits in the Fixed variation. And although at lower stakes in most cases, you will always find traffic at their other ring games such as razz, badugi, and various mixed games. They are the absolute leader here, as many other sites lack traffic to games such as these. Even though PokerStars is more of a tournament site, it is still possible to find a ring game of some sort at any time of the day.

Tournament play is where PokerStars has the other online poker rooms crushed as they offer the biggest tournaments and satellites to the most lucrative events all over the world. Probably the most well known, the WSOP Main Event receives thousands of entrants from PokerStars alone. They have tournaments and satellites to this event and many others running daily. PokerStars has sent 3 World Champions, all of which made it via satellite. The man who started the poker boom, Chris Moneymaker, made it there in 2003 off of a $40 satellite and in 2004 and 2005, Greg Raymer and Joe Hachem won the Main Event as well. These PokerStars Pros play exclusively at PokerStars and you can find them along with 26 other pros and 5 celebrity friends. If you would like to play with the pros and find the Poker Star in you, you can sign up using the PokerStars Marketing Code.

PokerStars by far offers the biggest tournaments available. Aside from the land based tournaments you can win seats to, PokerStars is the first online poker room to offer a $1,000,000 guarantee tournament. Named the "Sunday Million," you can buy in directly into this tournament for $215 or win your way through various satellites offered daily. This field is very competitive with an average of 7,000 players playing every Sunday. First place for this event will pay out over $100,000 on average. This is one of their largest tournaments available offered on a regular basis.

Other tournaments over seas can be won via satellite as well. If you look in the Events tab at PokerStars you can look under the specific tournament you would like to play in, whether it is the LAPT, EPT, or APPT. Other notable tournaments would include PokerStars Sunday Warm Up, Sunday 200k, and their many daily tournaments that range from $50,000-$100,000.

Last but not least, you will find plenty of Sit N Go's to play. Starting as soon as the required amount of players have entered, you can find a sit n go to play at, at just about any time of the day. Their buy ins start at $0.10 and work their way up to $5,600. Here, you will find many satellites also as well as the ever increasingly popular Step Tournaments, which allow players to buy in for as little as $7.50 and work their way through 6 steps to the ultimate prize which is usually a buy in to a larger event. In recent months, other games such as Badugi, variations of Omaha, and Horse have all been added as choices for Sit N Go's.

Although this is not all of the tournaments and games available, it just shows how big PokerStars really is. They have created an excellent poker room through dedication and innovation which is a must if a company wants to stay on top, much less survive. In addition to their games, PokerStars also offers great support whether it is by way of email or software.

Most people would imagine that the larger the company, the harder it is to get help or even live help for that matter. But for your information, PokerStars offers great customer service in a timely manner. From personal experience we received a response to an email sent at 6pm pst and was sent a response in under 3 hours. Most poker rooms take much longer, with some of them taking up to 24 hours to respond. Their staff has always been friendly and helpful in our experiences at PokerStars.

PokerStars software is fantastic also. Although they were slightly outdated as far as graphics are concerned, they have recently fixed that and offer software to players all over the world and are continually growing. Their software is very quick to install making it simple for even the most computer illiterate. They currently support 20 languages for players in the US, Latin America, Europe, and Asia and the language can be changed with the click of a mouse in the lobby.

Their site is very easy to use and even easier to navigate. And they offer many options such as 4 color decks, floor and table colors, and you can even upload your own non offensive picture to use as an avatar. They were the pioneers in many poker tools available today and continue to upgrade their software as warranted. Other support options would include money transfers, "find a player," and hand histories. If you feel that you have a problem setting or controlling limits, they also have a way to set daily, weekly, or monthly limits and even exclude yourself from play.

"If you build it, they will come." Although this is not always the case, PokerStars has proved it true by also adding an abundance of great games and fantastic support to their already solid foundation. They have proved that even the largest poker room available can still care about their players and expansion does not affect that. The next question to be answered is not who the largest poker room is, or even why. But simply how much bigger will PokerStars get, and will there ever be another poker room as large as PokerStars available online? If they use the same practices as PokerStars it is possible, but only time will tell.
