Food:
The Sportsmen has a great restaurant situated on their lowest floor and best of all its open till 3am which is perfect when you are doing well in one of their evening tournaments or playing in a cash game - Oh and definitely order "The Full Monty" if you get a chance which is their legendry breakfast which is served after midnight.
The restaurant itself isn't the usual type place you get in a poker room in that it is pretty sophisticated serving everything from steamed fillet of sea bass with ginger, spring onion and soy sauce to medallions of Scottish beef with buttered spinach. They do though have a deal each night in that you can get two courses for £18.50 and three courses for £23.50. Bar:
The Sportsman has two bars. The first is the bar in the casino aptly called "The Casino Bar" which is an informal type bar on the actual casino floor. The second bar is the Sports Bar which is a really nice lounge type bar which has table service, snacks and of course all major sports on TV. Personal Comments/Advice:
The Sportsman has been around for years and although its down a side street it has a loyal crowd who regulary turn up to play poker so there is always a game on. The venue itself is one of the best in my opinion, very stylish and definitely gives off an ambience that says you are in one of the better casinos in London but fortunately it isn't pretentious and doesn't give over a feeling that you don't belong who ever you may be. One thing I would say is make sure you don't look to scruffy as they have a dress code of smart casual. Games Availiable: The Sportsman has cash and tournaments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays although they have just recently done a deal with the LPC (London Poker Circuit) to do a £50 rebuy tournament once a month on a Friday as well as a 2 day tournament each month but check the website for details on that. With the cash games they charge an fee rather than a rake and in my opinion it is pretty steep and doesn't really merit the venue.
